About Us

Sisters, Lori-Ann Knowles and Evelyn Caruso opened The Cotton Cupboard Quilt Shop in August of 2007. They both bring a lot of sewing and quilting experience to the shop.

Lori has been quilting since the early 1980’s She took her first quilting class in 1984 taught by Bethany Reynolds, who went on to develop The Stack ‘N Whack method of doing Kaleidoscope type quilts. She has also taken classes from renowned quilters, Eleanor Burns, Carol Doak, Judy Niemeyer and Jacqueline DeJonge, among others. Lori continues to learn new techniques and brings them back to The Cotton Cupboard to share and teach others.

Evelyn started quilting in the late 1990’s and has also taken classes from Bethany Reynolds, Carol Doak and Eleanor Burns. She handles the day-to-day operations of The Cotton Cupboard, including ordering, maintaining the website and social media. Evelyn teaches the BERNINA Owners classes and Machine embroidery. She also troubleshoots BERNINA owners’ question over the phone and in the shop.

The sisters brought BERNINA sewing machines into the shop in 2010 and have earned Dealer Excellence status every year. They have grown to be one of the largest BERNINA dealers in Maine. Evelyn attends BERNINA University annually learning about new machines, accessories and techniques.

The Cotton Cupboard has a full-time BERNINA Certified Technician, to take care of all of your BERNINA sewing machine needs.
